Greg Yeutter

Founder of Restful

This is Greg, based in San Francisco, California, and the founder of Restful. After Graduating from Drexel University and over the past 15 years, his goal has been to design and produce lighting that supports a more natural rhythm in an increasingly artificial world. Restful’s products have helped thousands and continue to do so today.

William (Bill) Vinton

Astronomer and Former Teacher

Meet Bill, a former Teacher at St. John’s Berry, who now plays a key role at the North East Kingdom Observatory. ,
Bill’s goal has always been to teach and consistently give back to the community. As both a former President and current Treasurer at the North Eastern Kingdom Observatory, he has spent the last 15 years supporting the observatory and sharing his findings with others.

Leo Smith

Dark Sky Board Member

This is Leo. He has spent over 30 years protecting our dark skies. He dedicated time to our project, sharing his knowledge on the environmental, physical, and mental impacts of artificial light. The issue isn’t that we don’t understand this phenomenon—it’s that most people simply don’t realize it’s happening.

DR. Bernard McCaffrey

PHD & Pilot

Meet Bernard McCaffrey, a PhD in Philosophy and Psychology with an emphasis on aviation and airline pilot. He has amassed over 30,000 hours in the cockpit and has firsthand experience observing how light pollution has changed over the course of his career. He notes that for newer pilots, understanding this shift depends on having a reference point—without knowing what it was like before modern lighting, it’s difficult to fully see it from his perspective.

Dr. Daniel R. Tso

Clinical Psychologist

Meet Dr. Daniel Tso, a sleep psychologist at the University of Vermont’s Sleep Study Unit. He contributed his expertise on circadian rhythms, helping us better understand the physical and mental impacts of light. He met with us to discuss the growing concern, offering both personal and professional insight on the topic.

Dr. Steven St. Marie

Optometrist and Diplomate

Dr. St. Marie is a Vermont-born optometrist and Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, specializing in pediatric and low vision care. He is the owner of Northern Valley Eye Care and a past President of the Vermont Optometric Association, focusing on glaucoma, dry eye, and macular degeneration. His insight contributed to our project by explaining how shifting light environments affect eye function and visual strain.

Jordan Ambargis

Night Shift Worker

This is Jordan, a night shift worker at AJ Nonwovens who primarily works with electricity. Growing up in New Hampshire, he has witnessed changes in lighting and shared concerns about the loss of dark spaces. He captivated us with his stories and his genuine concern for the environment.

Aiden Katleski

Deep Space Hobbyist

Aiden Katleski is a recent graduate of St. John Fisher University with a degree in Business Marketing. Despite his academic focus, his passion for deep space has always been central. After first experiencing deep space imagery, he was immediately hooked. When we reached out, he was eager to contribute his knowledge of space and light pollution.

Reddit User & Student

This is Matison Rubi, a student who created a final video project for her ecology class on how light pollution alters the environment. Her work primarily focused on stadium lighting and the growing lack of dark spaces. Much of her research centered on Arizona and its border regions, where large stadium lights have been installed. She contributed to our project by sharing her research and discussing how light pollution has personally affected her.

Ed Kane

Burlington, VT → Chicago, IL Resident

Meet Ed Kane, a resident of Chicago, Illinois, originally from Burlington, Vermont. Although this was a street interview, his insight into the contrast between a major city and a smaller one offered a unique perspective on how light pollution has personally impacted him.

Biem Luitel

Owner of Kampus Kitchen

Meet Biem Luitel, a full-time resident of Burlington, Vermont. Originally from Nepal, he grew up in Vermont and graduated from Champlain College. He currently owns Kampus Kitchen, where he spends long hours under artificial lighting. His perspective on the mental, physical, and environmental impacts of prolonged light exposure helped us better understand the experience of someone working 12+ hours a day under constant artificial light.

Timothy V.

Night Shift Worker

This is Tim, or Timothy Volker, a graduate of Saint Michael’s College. Growing up in New Jersey, he was aware of light pollution from a young age. His contribution reflects his experiences living in both New Jersey and Vermont, as well as his work at a UPS hub as a night shift worker. He provided valuable insight into how constant exposure to artificial light has affected him.

Harrey & Grady

Meet Harrey and Grady, students at a local high school in Burlington. We met them while they were out with friends and asked about their understanding of light pollution. As part of a generation surrounded by constant lighting, especially LEDs. Their perspectives highlight a broader lack of awareness. Grady noted how certain lights, particularly screens, can affect his ability to fall asleep. Their input added valuable context to our chapter, The Invisible Killer.
