Meet The Team
Liam Simard
Cinematographer & Editor
As a Digital Media and Communications major who specializes in video and film production, I believe I will be able to greatly facilitate the production of this Web documentary. I have experience tackling large issues in documentary format, and I intend to transfer a lot of those skills and practices onto this film. Another skill that I believe will be very beneficial to this project would be my ability to turn words on paper into moving images on the screen. I am confident in my ability to adequately translate written stories into a visual medium that still relays the same message.
Kate Oxley
Digital Marketing MajorMy name is Kate Oxley, I am a digital marketing major, with a background in digital media, communication, and the arts. After beginning digital media marketing and previously studying communications, and art I developed a strong interest in visual storytelling through photography, and digital design.
Working on this project reinforced that interest, through the process of capturing and shaping visual content and writing. After graduation I hope to pursue marketing and digital design. This project further highlighted the importance of good communication when working within a team. Through the combination of digital design, video editing, and writing this project has come together as one large digital project that will hopefully communicate to the viewers the ideas we sought out to show.
Ryan McCaffrey
Designer & Editor
My name is Ryan McCaffrey, and I was drawn to this project through my experiences living in different parts of the country. Having spent time in major cities like Denver and Seattle, as well as smaller communities such as Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Grand Isle, Vermont, I became aware of how differently we experience the night sky. In more urban environments, I remember a constant glow surrounding the sky—something I didn’t question at the time. It wasn’t until I moved to Vermont that I truly understood what was missing.
For the first time, I looked up at a clear night sky and saw its full depth—an experience that felt almost out of body. There was something incredibly natural and grounding about being able to see the stars so vividly. That moment reshaped my perspective and ultimately inspired my interest in light pollution and its broader impact.
With this project, my goal is to raise awareness and encourage others to think more critically about how artificial light affects both our environment and our daily lives.
In addition, I see this piece as a central part of my professional portfolio. It reflects my ability to direct, design, and edit a large-scale digital project, combining storytelling with visual media to communicate complex ideas in an engaging and accessible way.
